At Tiverton Academy, we want all children to be part of a positive, nurturing community that supports and encourages them to be happy, caring, successful and aspirational citizens.
Through our curriculum, children will become confident and articulate communicators who are equipped for the challenges of life beyond Tiverton Academy.
Embedded in our curriculum and our ethos are the ‘6Cs’ - our core values, which are at the heart of everything we do:
Cooperation
Central to our teaching and learning are the key principles of Kagan Cooperative Learning: positive interdependence and simultaneous engagement. Everybody learns together. Through a range of cooperative learning structures, which build as children progress through the school, they learn key social skills to enable them to collaborate, build effective relationships and recognise the value of working positively with others.
Communication
We teach children to work with others and the importance of clear, effective communication to this. During their time at Tiverton Academy, children have a wealth of opportunities to develop as confident, articulate communicators (whether speaking, writing or online) who have an understanding of their responsibilities to and impact on others.
Community
Tiverton Academy is proud to be a real reflection of the rich and diverse global community of which we are a part. There are no outsiders at Tiverton Academy, as every child will tell you. Children are made to feel valued and respected for their uniqueness, which we celebrate. Our children are part of many communities (class, school, family, local, national, world) and what unites us is a shared understanding of the values of Tiverton Academy, our global family.
Citizenship
Within these communities, children at Tiverton Academy understand their responsibilities to themselves, others and the environment. Respect is at the core of every relationship in our school and our children internalise the ‘Golden Rule’ of treating others as they would like to be treated (including being a good digital citizen). Because of this, our expectations of children’s behaviour are very high, which allows everybody to enjoy their right to learn and thrive. Running through our curriculum is the importance of children’s well being physically and mentally, and they are given the tools to take care of themselves and to know where to find help if they need it.
Creativity
During their time at Tiverton Academy, children experience a huge range of high quality, inspirational opportunities which introduces them to a world of creative possibilities. Through our rich and ambitious curriculum, we seek and nurture talents in every child and build their confidence to explore, investigate and express their individuality in creative ways. Carefully planned schemes of work aim to equip children with a toolbox of skills, knowledge and techniques in order to do this.
Challenge
As part of our supportive, cooperative community, children at Tiverton Academy feel safe and confident to take risks in their learning, developing resilience, independence and resourcefulness along the way. This enables them to encounter challenges enthusiastically and see them as opportunities for new learning. Our rich curriculum inspires children to aspire to anything! By providing our children with carefully planned challenges, we equip them with a wide range of tools for their future beyond Tiverton Academy.
