University of Birmingham - Sports and Fitness
Each year, children from Year 2 to Year 6 take part in a block of weekly swimming lessons at the state of the art University of Birmingham swimming pool. We are incredibly lucky to have these excellent facilities locally.
Services for Education - Music
We work very closely with Services for Education to provide our children with a range of music tuition from expert practitioners. When in Y2, the children learn to play the keyboard, in Y4, the whole class learns the ukulele and in Y5 the children are taught to play the clarinet. The school "Super Choir" - made up of children from Y3 to Y6 - is also privileged to be a part of the annual Youth Proms, held at the Symphony Hall each year.
Claire Vaughan
We are extremely fortunate to have another expert music teacher as part of out Tiverton team. Claire Vaughan works with us weekly to teach music to Reception, Year 1 and 2, as well as teaching a recorders group. She also works with the older children in a weekly singing assembly which brings Y2 to Y6 together as one voice.
Encounter Church
As a crucial part of the Selly Oak community, we are incredibly grateful to our friends at Encounter Church, on Exeter Road. The team at the church warmly welcome us three times a year to hold our end of term celebration concerts and offer us the full use of their facilities and technician. It is wonderful to be able to bring our diverse school community come together to celebrate.
Rackets Cubed - UoB
In recent years, our LKS2 children have been able to take part in a wonderful scheme which joins racket sports, with maths and an evening meal. Each week, 2 members of school staff take Y3 across the university of Birmingham sports and fitness centre, for one night a week. All of the children benefit from this extra boost in fitness and maths combined.
